Hi guys! I hope you are all well. How is lock-down life on your side? I must admit - working from home, giving online lessons and keeping Alex entertained/helping him with school work as well as keep the home up and running is intense.
Overall - if you are in the same boat - remember - this lock-down thing is new for everyone. Especially kiddos and they find it confusing and intense. It's overwhelming for them too to suddenly be stuck at home without their friends and expected to do school work even though it feels like a holiday.
I designed three worksheets that I will share in the end as well - if you perhaps need a little something extra to keep you sane during this time.
So a few fun ideas we incorporate into your lock-down life schedule -
BOARDGAMES: This is an activity we already do weekly - but now I try and set aside some boardgame time with Alex daily. We switch between some silly/fun/educational games and have quite a few favorites in rotation. Some of our current favorites include Clue / Cluedo ( the one I had in high school), 5 Minute Dungeon / Shaky Shark / Timeline Games / Pass the Pigs and Jenga. We do play Monopoly as well as tons of other games too. Alex usually beats me 99% of the time - but that 1% helps him learn that you can't always win in life. (In my case it's usually Clue and the only reason is I'm a little faster than him figuring it out - must be all the murder shows I love watching !!)
What are some firm favorite family games YOU like to play with the family ??
BALL GAMES & OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
I try - emphasis on TRY here... to at least have some sort of outdoor activity with Alex during the day. Some days we do some ball throwing (how cute is this open/close ball we got from Toy Kingdown before lockdown ?? Not only is some sort of physical activity good for your body - it has great benefits for the mind as well. And fresh air never hurt anyone ;). I made it an exercise for us to try and do squats as we catch the ball and throw it. Might as well get fit while we are in lock-down right.
Another fun outdoor activity is a morning/evening stroll through our garden. Luckily we have a pretty decent garden so we can walk to the gate and around the house a few times before bedtime to get rid of any extra energy. (Although I'm pretty confident this tires me out more than it does Alex )
My dad also send me a link to the Amazon Audiobles stories for Children that is FREE in this lock-down period. How awesome is that? Alex picked DDiary of a 6th Grade Ninja - and every morning / or night he listens to a chapter. They have a wide range - so there will be something for every kid to listen to and love. You can find them HERE. As I mentioned it's 100% free and no sign-up or subscription is needed! Such a fantastic idea it's it?
Our daily schedule also includes lots of free play as well as Lego, playing Video games and just watching T.V - because life always needs a little balance.
I'm including three three freebie worksheets - I know a lot of schools didn't send out tons of homeschooling work - so if you need something extra - I got you covered.

DeleteThese are great ideas, Lynette! Yep, we're in the same situation and intense is one way to describe it. We're loving board games and books too (my kindergarteners are learning to read), worksheets, painting by numbers, lots of crafts, jigsaw puzzles, you name it, we've tried it in the last two weeks. Online classes will start in a couple of weeks for us so that will be interesting too! Stay well and hope you have a happy Easter.
